What is a GMO?
GMO foods are organism whose DNA has been modified and changed in a way that doesn’t
occur naturally. Biotechnology is developing new, more resilient foods that are better to survive the changing conditions and the growing population. In 1982 the first GMO was approved and in 1994 GMO's came out in grocery stores. This traditional cross breeding involves selecting plants or an animal and changing them with DNA from other plants or animals with the most desirable characteristics. All of the GM foods approved so far are from Genetically modified plants, for example corn plants that have a gene that makes them resistant to insects. |
